Whitehaven

Whitehaven is a fine Georgian town, one of the first Post Renaissance planned towns in the country. Built on traditional shipping and mining industries, modern day Whitehaven has developed around the regenerated harbour area which has fast become a favorite with yacht and leisure craft owners from all around the country as their preferred "Gateway to the Lakes". The town centre has a wealth of Georgian architecture and some 250 Georgian buildings. Nowadays the busy thoroughfares include pedestrianised shopping streets, restaurants, bars and cafes around the town and harbour area, creating an attractive environment in which to live and work.

The town is host to many visits from Tall Ships and local attractions include The Rum Story, The Beacon, The Haigh Mining Museum and the starting point of the popular 140 mile C 2 C cycle route.

Whitehaven has won many awards in recent years, ranging from heritage awards to "In Bloom" awards, reflecting the pride that the local community has in the town.
