A Grisdales Guide: How to Keep Your Pet Friendly Home Clean

Grisdales - Sleep

West Cumbria is a brilliant place to own a pet. We’re spoilt for choice with great walks and peaceful conditions. We’re a big fan of pets with the majority of our staff housing a furry little friend. This being said, we know first-hand how they can create some problems in your home especially after they’ve been out on the muddy fells. In this week’s blog we’ve got some tips on how to keep your home clean whilst still having those creature comforts.

Suck it up

Pet hairs can get everywhere (depending on the type of pet) so you need a piece of kit that’s going to do the job when cleaning up. Once you’ve got this piece of kit, make sure you clean out the filter on a regular basis. Here you can find 10 of the best vacuum cleaners for pet hairs: http://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/house-garden/vacuum-cleaners/best-pet-vacuum-cleaners-for-hardwood-floors-handheld-dyson-a6699686.html

Be alert

Whether you have a young pet that isn’t house trained yet or you’ve just got an old dog that can’t be taught new tricks, you need to make sure that you keep on top of any accidents. Reacting quick and having the right cleaning materials will ensure that there is no lasting damage.

Target the main culprit

If you’re wanting to have a clean home, you need to start by identifying the main culprits for making it messy. Make sure your pets are clean to start with, this means regular baths, grooming sessions (even if it’s just brushing their hair to reduce the amount that ends up around the house) and wiping feet after they’ve been outside. Obviously, they’re not always going to be sparkly clean but trying your best to keep them relatively clean will help to improve the general cleanliness of your home.

Pet cleaning station

One way you can help to minimize mess is to have a special area where you clean your pet. This will help to concentrate the mess, but you will have all your cleaning materials ready to deal with any muddy situation.

Air it out

You might not be able to smell it but guests in your home can really pick up the smell of a pet. To help prevent this, you want to follow the rest of the tips. An additional tip is to make sure you regularly air out your home. Make sure you open windows and doors to get that fresh air in and those pet odours out.
