Historically the town was famous for mining and shipping, but now is a prime location for nearby Sellafield and the nuclear industry. The maritime history is clear when wandering around the town. From statues, benches and artwork, the nautical themes are clear throughout the town. This theme continues when looking at things to do. The museum was refurbished in 2007 to keep up with the times however it can still send you on a journey into the past.
